Data Challenge 2019
[UPDATE] Challenge results
The results of the Data Challenge 2019 have been presented at the 2nd International Workshop on Medical Ultrasound Tomography (MUST) in Detroit. Christian Boehm from ETH Zurich presented the reconstruction results by different groups, which have been using reconstruction algorithms ranging from ray based to full wave form inversion. During the discussion the challenges and potential future directions have been discussed.
A record of the data challenge is included in the Proceedings of MUST 2019, which can be downloaded here: https://publikationen.bibliothek.kit.edu/1000124805/119436313:
- A description of the data which has been provided is given in the paper
C. Boehm, T. Hopp, and N. Ruiter: “USCT data challenge 2019″ (pages 107-115) - Reconstructed images have been presented in the paper

Challenge announcement
We are happy to announce a new data challenge using synthetic data from numerical breast phantoms. To foster the exchange of knowledge and reproducible science, several research groups have joined forces to create a blind test with freely available synthetic USCT data.
Using this database, we invite all participants to benchmark different imaging algorithms in terms of the quality of the reconstruction and computational efficiency. This will enable the USCT community to collect best practices and relevant background information on various imaging techniques.
The results of the USCT Data Challenge 2019 will be presented at the 2nd International Workshop on Medical Ultrasound Tomography (MUST) in Detroit in October 2019.
Data and code access
For this challenge we provide several synthetic 2D and 3D data sets along with code to access the data. For data access please visit https://usct.gitlab.io/datachallenge2019/
Submission of results
Participants are encouraged to submit field reports describing their methods and results. Please use the following template for preparing your field report:
FieldReport_DataChallenge2019 (docx)
FieldReport_DataChallenge2019 (pdf)
Deadline for submission of field reports: August 25, 2019.
Please submit field reports via e-mail to must-workshop@ipe.kit.edu
Publication of results
Participants submitting a field report may present their results on a Poster at the 2nd International workshop on Medical Ultrasound Tomography (MUST II) in Detroit.
Participants are also encouraged to submit regular abstracts for the MUST II workshop until July 25, 2019.
